The Alchemist's Map [slide 1], violin, various hardware, wood, and other media, dimensions vary. This piece was created for the Denver Young Artist's Orchestra annual fundraiser, The Painted Violin. Each year artists are selected and given a retired violin to convert into an artwork that is donated with proceeds going to the organization. I was not only interested in just covering the outer surface, but imagining what else this violin could become. After removing the fingerboard, I carefully cut the top (face) of the violin off, then cut in two and added hinges. Please continue to the next slide to see more of this piece.
